Mansehra: Prison riot leaves 8 inmates injured
MANSEHRA: As reported by the Dawn News on Saturday, at least eight inmates were injured, three of them critically, when two groups of prisoners attacked each other with knives and sticks at the district jail here on Friday night.
The incident occurred when a prisoner, who was going to offer Isha prayer, reduced the volume of the television in one of the barracks. His act infuriated some of the inmates and during arguments both sides attacked each other with knives and sticks.
Some of the prisoners identified as Chanzab, Mohammad Babar and Malik Jan, who sustained critical injuries, were taken to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital. They were hospitalised for treatment. Five other injured inmates were treated at the hospital inside the prison.
Following the incident the jail authorities initiated complete search of barracks as according to sources most of the hardcore criminals were having knives and other such weapons. Sources said that narcotic was also supplied to inmates with support of the black sheep in the jail police. The jail officials, when contacted, told this correspondent that superintendent of jail, Zafarullah Khan, initiated a inquiry into the incident and those responsible would be taken to task.
