Peace committee chief shot dead by militants in Hangu
KALAYA: As reported by the Dawn News on Monday, militants gunned down a peace committee chief in Doaba Bazaar of Hangu district on Sunday and put the heads of two other persons on display in Orakzai agency as a warning against resisting the militants.
Eyewitnesses said two motocyclists shot dead peace committee chief Mumtaz Mithakhel while he was visiting Doaba Bazaar and escaped. He died on the spot.
The same day, militants left the decapitated heads of two unidentified persons in Saiful Darra Bazaar in the central tehsil of Orakzai Agency. Residents said a chit attached to the heads warned that people who form lashkars against Taliban, would meet the same fate. The victims had been slaughtered at some undisclosed place before displaying their heads in the bazaar.
A lashkar of Meshti tribe had taken action against Taliban militants operating in the area a couple of days ago. At least eight people had been killed and 11 others wounded in the action.
