Lakki Marwat: Attempt of suicide attack foiled
LAKKI MARWAT: According to the Dawn News on Tuesday, police claimed on Monday to have foiled a terror plot by killing a suspect suicide bomber who was driving an explosive-laden pick-up near Jabukhel village. Fourteen people were injured when the vehicle exploded after police firing.
Officials said that police had erected barriers on roads leading to an adjacent tribal region after receiving information that militants were planning to carry out a suicide attack in the area.
They said police signalled the pick-up to stop at a checkpost but driver ignored the signal and tried to speed away. Police opened fire and the vehicle exploded, creating a big crater on the road and causing collapse of several nearby mud-houses and shops. The explosion was so powerful that it was heard even in places about 35 kilometres away.
A police official said the vehicle was packed with 1200 kilograms of explosive material. He said investigators had collected parts of the body of the bomber, who appeared to be in his late teens.
