Islamabad: Phony attack on Nato oil tanker unearthed
ISLAMABAD: As reported by Dawn News on Wednesday, the capital police on Tuesday unearthed a fake attack on a tanker carrying oil for Nato, saying the driver set it on fire after stealing the fuel.
Patrolling on Fatehjang Road near Nogazi, Senior Superintendent of Police Mirvaiz Niaz spotted an abandoned oil tanker on fire around 1:45am. The SSP called the Tarnol police and the firefighters, who put off the fire, which burnt the tyres of the tanker.
The police found four sacks filled with wood and two cans of diesel at the top of the vehicle. Besides, the seal of taps and caps of the tanker were also found broken. There was only five per cent fuel in the tanker, police said.
The tanker had the capacity of carrying 8,000 litres oil.
The police believed the driver stole and sold the fuel as he tried to set it on fire, giving the impression it was a ‘terrorist’ attack.
The police have started efforts to trace the driver and the owner of the tanker.
