Lahore: Court awards 21-yrs RI to man for throwing acid on wife
LAHORE: According to the Dawn News on Sunday, Additional District and Sessions Judge Azizullah on Saturday awarded 21-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) to a man for causing serious burn injuries to his wife by throwing acid on her face.
Green Town police had registered a case on Aug 1, 2003 against Syed Irfan Husain Zaidi on the complaint of victim Saira Liaquat.
Saira had married Zaidi while her Rukhsati did not take place owing to some differences between the families, which led to the incident.
After holding trial for seven years, the judge convicted him under sections 324, 336, 337 (ii) and 337 (v) of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
The judge sentenced him to seven-year rigorous imprisonment under section 324, seven-year RI with Arsh equivalent to full Diyat worth Rs3,831,856 for causing damage to one eye of Ms. Saira under section 334, and seven-year RI under section 336 with Arsh equal to half of the Diyat for causing Itlaf-i-Salahiat of other eye of the victim.
The accused has also been ordered to pay Arsh equal to full Diyat for causing Itlaf-e-Salahiat of lips, Arsh equal to full Diyat for causing four eyelashes and Arsh equivalent to one half of the Diyat for causing damage to hair and eyebrows of the victim.
The judge also ordered the convict to pay Rs50,000 as Daman to the victim under section 337 (ii) of the PPC for causing injuries on the chest and arms of Saira Liaquat.
The convict was further ordered to pay Rs200,000 as compensation to the victim under section 544-A of CrPC and in failure of payment he would face six-month simple imprisonment.
The judge directed the Kot Lakhpat jail superintendent to take custody of convict Irfan Zaidi and to keep him in the jail safely until execution of the sentence.
