Karachi: 4 arrested in gang bust
Karachi: As reported by the Dawn News on Sunday, the Crime Investigation Department (CID) of the Sindh police on Saturday claimed to have arrested four suspects, including a sacked police constable, for their alleged involvement in target killings on “political and ethnic grounds”.
A senior official said the arrest of Bilal Zafar, Mohammad Hanif, Babar Mumtaz alias Farrukh and Mohammad Asad came after a brief encounter in Liaquatabad area.
“Bilal Zafar was terminated from the police service a few years ago under a disciplinary action,” SSP Fayyaz Khan of the CID said. “He led the gang of four that committed at least six killings this year alone, including the assassination of a police officer in Garden area.”
He said that the CID had traced two cases of murders which were allegedly committed by Bilal Zafar with his arrested aides on ethnic grounds.
He also gunned down three political workers in different parts of the city. The arrested suspects were affiliated with a political group, the SSP said but did not elaborate.
“We have found an AK-47 assault rifle in the custody of the suspects which they had snatched from a police constable in the Bahadurabad area. A 9mm pistol, 8mm rifle, a dagger, 65 bullets and two motorcycles snatched from different areas were also found,” the SSP added.
