Thatta: Wildlife official attacked by falcon poachers
KARACHI: According to the Dawn News on Wednesday, people supporting falcon poachers attacked on Tuesday a wildlife official in Thatta who had to save his life by taking shelter in a police station.
The official, Wajid Shaikh, said that he went to the field along the Jati coastal belt in the Rann of Kutchh and saw that many poachers had set up camps and were busy in trapping birds.
He took action against nine of the camps and arrested nine poachers and seized four local lager falcons that are used to catch migratory peregrine and saker falcons.
The saker and peregrine falcons – costing millions of rupees –are used by the Arab hunters who use these to hunt internationally protected houbara bustard.
He said the supporters of the poachers chased him and he took refuge with Sujawal police, but they did not help him till a high police official from Hyderabad intervened.
