Rawalpindi: ATC court acquits 5 accused of suicide attacks
RAWALPINDI: As reported by the Dawn News on Sunday, an Anti Terrorism Court on Saturday acquitted five men in two cases of suicide attacks targeting security forces in Islamabad for want of evidence against them. Special Judge ATC-I Malik Mohammad Akram Awan acquitted five men in the case of suicide attack on the office of Islamabad police`s special branch. Three of the five men were also acquitted in the suicide attack on a check post of Frontier Constabulary (FC) last year.
The court acquitted Fidaullah, a student of Jamia Faridia associated with Lal Masjid and security in-charge of Abdul Rasheed Ghazi, who was killed in the military operation, along with Khairullah, Khurram Shahzad, Awais and Obaid. On March 24 last year a police constable and the suicide bomber were killed in the attack on the special branch office in Sitara market.
In the second case of suicide attack on the FC check post, the court acquitted Fidaullah, Khurram Shahzad and Khairullah for want of evidence. On April 4, 2009, the suicide attack on FC post in Islamabad killed eight security men. Arrested in June last year, the trial of five men was held in the Adiala Jail.
