Karachi: 3 charged with kidnapping infant
KARACHI: As reported by the Dawn News on Tuesday, an anti-terrorism court indicted on Monday three men in a case pertaining to the kidnapping of an infant for ransom. Danish Javed, Shahbaz alias Faizan and Mohammad alias Faqir Mohammad have been charged with abducting seven-month-old Marriam in North Nazimabad in July 2010 and demanding a ransom from her family for her safe release.
The judge, Syed Hasan Shah Bukhari of the ATC-I, who was conducting the trial, read out all the charges against the accused. However, they pleaded not guilty and opted to contest the case. The court summoned the prosecution witnesses, directing them to record their testimonies on the next hearing.
According to the prosecution, the accused abducted the child on July 16 in People`s Colony in North Nazimabad and demanded a ransom of Rs500,000 from her father. However, acting on a tip-off, a police party carried out a raid near a hotel in the Buffer Zone area on July 17 and arrested the accused and recovered the abducted child from their possession, prosecution said.
