Lahore: FIA nabs human smuggler
LAHORE: As reported by The News on Thursday, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested a human trafficker on Wednesday.
FIA Officials said the accused, Sajid Mahmood alias Hamayun, was arrested from Dinga, Tehsil Kharian on a tip off.
They said he had been involved in trafficking people for the past five years and charges Rs600,000 to Rs700,000 per person for sending them to Greece for employment. Officials said he used the route of Pakistan-Iran-Turkey-Greece.
Officials revealed that the arrested trafficker remained associated with notorious trafficker Arshad Baghri who was operating “Safe Houses” in Iran and was responsible for onward trafficking of these intending illegal immigrants.
Accused Sajid Mahmood also developed links with many other notorious traffickers in Iran and Turkey.
He himself has been living in Greece since 2001 and travels frequently to Pakistan.
He established a well connected and organised network of traffickers at Pakistan-Iran and Iran-Turkey borders as well as in Greece.
He was nominated in four FIRs, officials said, adding that his arrest would help the Agency in breaking network of human traffickers.
