Rawalpindi: Husband sets wife on fire over petty issue
RAWALPINDI: As reported by the Dawn News on Thursday, a mother of two was badly burnt after being set alight allegedly by her husband over a petty issue in Muslim Town, Sadiqabad, on Wednesday. The 26-year-old Nadia, wife of Shahid, suffered 75 per cent burns and was taken to Benazir Bhutto Hospital from where she was referred to Pims due to her critical condition.
Nadia`s mother Rashida Khatoon said her daughter, who lived nearby, came to her house at around 3:30pm asking for Rs500. She said Nadia needed the money after her husband accused her of stealing Rs500 from his purse and wanted it back. However, Nadia denied the allegation and even tried to assure him by swearing on the holy Quran but to no avail.
The sobbing mother said: “I asked my daughter to go home and I will be following her shortly. She said when she reached her daughter`s house, she found her trapped in fire with her husband and his elder brother standing around. I put a sheet of cloth on her body and took her to hospital.”
