Murree: Action against defilers ordered
MURREE: According to the Dawn News, a three-member environment tribunal has directed legal action against 120 poultry farms for creating environmental hazards in the resort town. The tribunal also ordered action against restaurants, shops and other outlets on both sides of Rawalpindi–Murree–Kashmir Road and Islamabad–Murree Dual Carriageway (expressway) for spreading garbage in the catchment areas of Rawal and Simbly dams.
The tribunal was constituted to submit report to Supreme Court regarding solid and liquid material being thrown in the catchment areas of the dams. The apex court had taken suo motu notice of garbage and waste being thrown into the catchment areas of the dams. The tribunal, comprising Khawaja Mohammad Afzal, Ms Gulzaar Butt and Chaudhry Khalil, will continue hearing other cases against some ‘big fish’, including housing societies, creating environmental hazards.
