Haripur: 3 burglars arrested over jewellery theft
HARIPUR: As reported by the Dawn News on Monday, the Haripur police on Sunday arrested three burglars after exchange of fire and recovered jewellery worth millions of rupees from them. Accused were fleeing after looting jewellery from a gold shop in Havelian, police said.
A police party of Shah Maqsood police post was patrolling on the GT road near Lora Chowk when it saw a Toyota Hiace No F-8841 being driven recklessly. The police party when signaled the driver to stop he sped away but was intercepted near Donali Bridge after a brief chase. The inmates opened fire at the police party but luckily all the police personnel escaped unhurt and managed to overpower three of the six burglars while three others escaped.
During search the police recovered a locker from the vehicle which was carrying seven gold necklaces, 11 locket chains, 30 gold rings, 3 tikkas, 13 earrings and chain. The police also recovered a gas cylinder and a cutter used for cutting iron safe. The value of the jewellery was stated to be in millions.
