Karachi: Jewel thief gets 5-yr imprisonment
Karachi: According to the Dawn News, a court on Friday sentenced a man to five years in prison for committing a robbery. The assistant additional district and sessions judge (east), Ayaz Mustafa Jokhio, also directed accused Ghulam Abbas to pay a fine of Rs20,000 and in case of default he would have to suffer an additional two-month imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, on Aug 29, 2009 the accused along with his absconding accomplice intercepted Islamuddin and his wife within the remit of the Jamshed Quarters police station and deprived the woman of her jewellery. In the meantime, a passer-by, Shahid, saw the accused and opened fire with his licensed pistol. The accused sustained bullet wounds, but somehow managed to escape.
Later, the police arrested him from a hospital and recovered the stolen articles on a lead given by him, it added. A case (FIR 569/2009) was registered under Section 392 (robbery) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on the complaint of Islamuddin.
