Lahore: Brawl over door knocking ends in bloodbath
LAHORE: As reported by the Dawn News on Monday, three people were killed and two others, including a woman, injured on Sunday in a cross-fire between two neighbours in Faisal Park, Harbanspura, police said. Quoting one of the groups and a few witnesses, Cantonment division SP Investigation Kamran Adil told Dawn the brawl started when Haji Sharif, president of Bilal Masjid committee at Waheed Chowk, knocked at the door of his neighbour Muhammad Tanveer to collect donations.
Tanveer came out of the house and objected to the knocking which led both to an argument and Sharif left the place. After a while, Liaqat, Abdul Rasheed, Danish and others from the Sharif group arrived at the Tanveer’s and exchanged hot words. In the ensuing development, both sides resorted to firing which left five people injured who were rushed to Shalimar and Services hospitals.
Abdul Rasheed, 55, and Muhammad Liaqat, 45, of the Sharif group died. Muhammad Tanveer, 40, also succumbed to his wounds while his wife and relative Shafqat suffered wounds but their condition was stated to be stable. Police took five suspects into custody which included former nazim Haji Shahid Mehmood, Danish, Bilawal Rasheed, Murtaza and Hussnain Liaqat and seized weapons from them.
