Bid to smuggle timber foiled in Haripur
HARIPUR: According to the Dawn News, Haripur police foiled an attempt to smuggle hundreds of feet of timber to Punjab and arrested five persons. The timber was being transported via Tarbela Lake from forest range of upper Hazara for getting higher rates in Punjab, police said.
City police said on a tip-off regarding offloading of big quantity of timber on the bank of Tarbela Lake near Khalabat Township by an organised group, a police party headed by Inspector Jehangir Khan cordoned off the exit points of Haripur near Government Postgraduate College for Boys and intercepted a convoy of five trucks. Logs measuring hundreds of feet were recovered.
