2 men kill wives in Karachi
KARACHI: Two young women were killed allegedly by their husbands in separate attacks in different areas during the Eid holidays. In both incidents, the police of the respective areas arrested the suspects.
In the first incident, 30-year-old Saima was found slaughtered in her third-floor apartment of Gul Phase Building near Hasht Chowk of Lyari. The police said the incident occurred on the first day of Eid and came to police notice only after the alleged killer appeared before them to surrender.
“The victim’s husband, Qadir Khan, said he had had a dispute with his wife for the past few weeks that intensified on Tuesday night,” said Inspector Yousuf Baloch, the SHO of the Kalri police station. “The couple exchanged hot words and ultimately the suspect overpowered his wife and slit her throat.”
Early in the morning, he said, the suspect emerged in the police station with the knife he had used in the crime and narrated the story. The couple had got married some six years ago and had two children.
In the other incident, 42-year-old Tasleema was allegedly strangled by her husband in Punjabi Colony near Liaquatabad. The official said Tasleema was found dead inside her home when some neighbours went to see her on the Eid day.
“The neighbours later approached the police, who tried to contact the victim’s husband, Abdul Majeed, but his cellphone was found switched off,” said an official at the Sharifabad police station. “This raised suspicions about the role of the husband and finally the police traced him at one of his relatives’ place.”
He confessed to the murder, citing some domestic dispute, said the official, adding that the police had also detained a relative of the suspect for questioning.
“The couple had no child and had been living in the area for the past several years. The victim’s family is due to arrive here from Punjab in a day or two. Their presence may also help trace the exact reason behind the murder,” added the official.
