Lahore: Human trafficker extradited from Italy
LAHORE: For the first time, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) managed to extradite a most wanted human trafficker operating outside the country back to Pakistan.
FIA Lahore Director Zafar Qureshi, addressing a press conference here Tuesday, said accused Mazhar Iqbal Butter was extradited from Italy.
He said extradition papers were prepared by the Ministry of Interior and were sent to Italian Interpol authorities in Rome on August 20, 2010.
The FIA Lahore director said that Italian authorities arrested Mazhar and a team of Gujranwala FIA went to Italy to bring him back. He said Italian authorities handed Mazhar over to FIA officials in Italy on November 27, 2010.
Mazhar Iqbal Butter is a resident of Gujranwala and was running an organised racket from Istanbul, Turkey.
He was involved in trafficking people to Europe through Iran-Turkey-Greece. His brother Zafar Iqbal Butter was also involved in trafficking and was operating in Pakistan. Mazhar was also involved in an attempted murder case of FIA officials.
Around 32 cases are already registered against Mazhar in various FIA circles, the FIA director said.
