Lahore: Cop caught red-handed while looting
LAHORE: Days after dacoits in police uniforms gunned down a housewife near Shahadra Police Station, local residents captured one robber red-handed who was later identified as a policeman serving in the same police station.
Informed sources claimed the accused constable, Saddaqat, deputed in Begam Kot Police Chowki, was arrested red-handed when 14 security guards of Hafiz Ameen, an Imam of local mosque, cordoned off the area while his three accomplices, also policemen, managed to escape from the scene.
They revealed the officers were in plain clothes during duty hours and were allegedly habitual of committing crimes in their locality between 1 to 6 am.
The sources further said the police officers held a family on gunpoint and snatched Rs20,000, mobile phones and gold ornaments from the family of Afzal Gujjar, a local resident of Shahdara.
“In second incident they snatched a gun and cash from a security guard of Mohammad Usman, owner of a shopping bags manufacturing factory, from the same area,” they added. The guard was sitting in front of the factory on other side of the road when this incident took place.
Interestingly, the police officers, alleged dacoits, after having cups of tea from a local stall decided to commit third major robbery but one of them was arrested unfortunately red-handed at about 5:50 am, they added.
The sources said they entered a farmhouse of buffaloes owned by Hafiz Ameen and committed robbery but the security guards got active and held them on gunpoint on which the cops opened indiscriminate firings on security guards, who retaliated in the same way.
Resultantly, three buffaloes suffered multiple injuries on various parts of their bodies and reportedly one buffalo died.
They further said three police officers escaped from the crime scene while Sadaqat was held.
“After thrashing him, the locals were near to set the arrested constable on fire when the City Police Division Superintendent of Police (SP) Shahzad Asif reached the spot and intervened into the matter.
