Karachi: TTP militant arrested
KARACHI: The Sindh police Crime Investigation Department (CID) on Tuesday arrested a militant associated with banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) suspected of involvement in the CID office blast from the Sohrab Goth area.
SSP Fayyaz Khan informed this while addressing a press conference at his office. He said the arrested militant was a close aide of Hafiz Saeed and a huge cache of ammunition including 10kg explosive materials, three detonators, a hand grenade and a Kalashnikov with 500 live bullets were recovered from his possession.
During initial interrogation, the accused has informed police that he belonged to the Hafiz Saeed Orakzai group of the TTP, the SSP said.
“Six hard-line militants, including two suicide bombers, are present in Karachi but the militant is unaware of their hideouts,” Khan added.
The officer said the accused was involved in attacking law enforcement agencies personnel in the Orakzai Agency, adding that the militant along with his accomplices was planning to carry out suicide attacks at Ashura procession and different congregations in the city.
The police have also recovered a list of names of different religious personalities and maps of different worship places, Khan informed.
The accused had been residing at the Sherpao Colony, Landhi and was arrested from the Sohrab Goth area, where he came to meet his accomplice, he said. staff report
