Karachi: 587 kg explosives seized last year
KARACHI: Sindh police seized 587.5 kilograms of explosives, 92 detonators, 11 live bombs, seven suicide jackets, hand grenades and rocket launchers and 256 sophisticated illegal weapons from terrorists and criminals last year.
A total of 65 police officers were killed and 158 other wounded last year in the line of duty.
They also arrested “88 terrorists, 73 target killing suspects, 68,908 other accused, including robbers, absconders and proclaimed offenders,” says a press release issued here on Thursday.
In addition to the illegal weapons and explosive materials, drugs were also recovered from their possession.
“A total of 11 terrorists and 176 robbers were killed in encounters with police,” the statement said.
The police claimed that they had busted 45 gangs of terrorists and 935 gangs of criminals.
The police during their drive against incidents of target killings especially in Karachi detected 82 target killing related cases.
They recovered five LMGs, six G-3 guns, 616 SMGs, 331 rifles, 1,494 shotguns and repeaters, 9,339 TT pistols, revolvers and mausers and 71,412 rounds of ammunition.
They arrested 12,469 suspects involved in robberies and other heinous crimes.
A total of 3,406 suspected criminals involved in police encounters and other crimes were allegedly caught red-handed.
Meanwhile, 3,285 proclaimed offenders and 49,758 absconders were also arrested.
The police killed or arrested “106 notorious outlaws and robbers having a total of Rs57.4 million bounty on their heads”.
