Karachi: Woman saved from illegal detention
KARACHI: The Baloch Colony police have found a woman from Ashraf Colony, Qayyumabad with torture marks and chain wrapped round her leg. Police said that her husband and in-laws had tortured her.
According to details, 27-year-old Sellay, wife of Mohammad Abid was living with her husband and two brother-in-laws in Ashraf Colony for the past six months.
She was married to Abid, son of Mohammad Ayaz in May 2010 in exchange for her brother’s marriage with Abid’s sister.
Baloch Colony Police Station House Officer (SHO) Meer Samad said, “I received a telephone call at around 11am that a woman with a chain in her feet was roaming at Qayyumabad. I rushed to the spot and removed the chain from her leg and brought her to the police station.”
The SHO added that they arrested her husband and in-laws who allegedly tortured her and kept her in illegal detention.
Police have registered an FIR (3/2011) under section 342 and 337-A-1 against the accused and put them behind bars.
According to the SHO, she will be handed over to her uncle Qari Gul Faraz Khan who lives at Landhi.
“I don’t want to live with them,” said Sellay pointing to her husband and in-laws who were sitting on a bench right opposite her at the police station.
She said, “They torture me and my sister-in-law tied me to the foot of a charpoy with iron chains for the past one-month when I returned from my uncle’s home.”
She said, “They only free me at the time of meals, while the rest of time I am kept in chains … I want to meet my mother,” said the scared woman in a dejected voice looking straight toward her husband.
“I don’t want to go with them they will tie me like a goat and torture me again … take me to my mother or uncle,” she pleaded.
