Illegal detention case Man recovered in raid on women police station
KARACHI: A judicial magistrate raided a women police station on Friday and recovered a man apparently kept there in wrongful confinement.
Acting on the directives of a district and sessions court, Judicial Magistrate Sara Junejo carried out a raid at the women police station, Liaquatabad, and got the man, Niaz Ahmed, released.
The magistrate directed the station house officer of the women police station to appear before the district and sessions judge (central) on Saturday. The magistrate would submit her report in court on Saturday.
Court sources said that the magistrate found the victim in the lock-up of the police station and the officials failed to produce any FIR or other documentary evidence to justify his confinement.
Mohammad Arsalan, through his counsel Rana Shamshad, filed a habeas corpus application under Section 491 of the criminal procedure code stating that the police picked up his brother, Niaz, from his house on Jan 6 and demanded a bribe for his release.
The applicant said that his brother had unlawfully been detained at the women police station, Liaquatabad, since Thursday and prayed to the court for the recovery of the detainee.
After a preliminary hearing, District and Sessions Judge (central) Sofia Latif directed the magistrate to carry out a raid on the information provided by the applicant and recover the victim if found in wrongful confinement.
