Rawalpindi: Man kidnapped for ransom
RAWALPINDI, Jan 7: The Civil Lines police on Friday registered a case against unknown kidnappers for their alleged involvement in the kidnapping of a man from Sher Zaman Colony on December 25 last year.
The kidnappers later reportedly demanded Rs50 million as ransom for his safe release.
According to police sources, Sardar Mohammad Rafiq left his house in his car on December 25, but did not return home. The following day the kidnappers contacted his family and informed them that Sardar Rafiq was in their captivity and sought ransom for his release.
Sardar Mohammad Saleem, brother-in-law of the kidnapped man, in his complaint, told the Civil Lines police that when Rafiq did not return they made every effort to trace him but all in vain. He said the next day he received a call from the kidnapers who told him that Rafiq would only be released after the ransom was paid.
However, the kidnappers did not identify the place and time to deliver the ransom money.
Police said neither the kidnappers made any further contact with the family nor freed the man.
