Karachi: Robbers loot a Nazimabad bank
KARACHI: The first bank heist of the Year 2011 took place on Monday when armed robbers made away with Rs650,000 from a bank in broad daylight in just about five minutes.
According to details, three armed men, wearing jeans and shirts, entered a bank located at Nazimabad No 1 at around 12:45pm within the limits of Rizvia Police Station.
They overpowered the two security guards – Altaf and Rizwan – of a private security company, deputed at the bank, by snatching Altaf’s rifle and Rizwan’s TT pistol, took the staff hostage at gunpoint and looted Rs650,000 from the counter.
They fled after the five-minute swift operation. One of the robbers even beat up a security guard on some pretext.
Police on suspicion about involvement of the security guards have detained them for questioning.
DSP Sultan Khan said the security camera system was not working properly and they did not get any footage of the robbers, adding, “We are investigating but are facing some difficulties because the camera system was not working since the last one week”.
Police have registered a case on the complaint of the bank manager and are investigating the matter.
