Karachi: 9 Shershah carnage culprits surrender
KARACHI: Nine attackers involved in the Shershah scrap market attack have surrendered themselves to the police on Tuesday.
The accused men — Akbar, Abdul Latif, Tufail, Asghar, Ejaz, Abid, Iqbal, Tehseen and Jauhar — surrendered before the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the police at their office in Saddar.
The investigations into this case were transferred to the SIU after the first suspect, Lal Muhammad Magsi, surrendered.
SIU chief SSP Raja Omer Khattab said that the suspects surrendered out of fear since the police were continuously raiding their houses.
“They [the suspects] contacted the investigation officer and told him that they wanted to surrender due to pressure from their families,” said Khattab. “They knew that they would be arrested soon.”
According to the police, the suspects confessed that they attacked the market due to the extortion issue and received instructions from Baba Ladla, who accompanied them in the attack.
Khattab said, however, that they are interrogating the accused and will not confirm anything at the moment.
“The prime suspect Baba Ladla is our main target. He and three others will soon be in police custody,” Khattab added. The accused men have, however, not handed over the weapons used in the attack.
Earlier, three attackers, Shafi Muhammad, Aslam Pervez and Nawaz Ali, were arrested from Lyari while one accused, Lal Muhammad Magsi, had surrendered himself to the Pak Colony police within a week of the incident.
