13 students held after rivals clash at GCUF in Faisalabad
FAISALABAD, Jan 13: Gulberg police took 13 students into custody after two rival groups led by Rana Aizad and Shahbaz of the Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF) clashed and resorted to aerial firing on the campus on Thursday.
Police have registered a case against more than two dozen members of both groups.
Reports said both groups had a quarrel at the canteen and they resorted to aerial firing creating a panic on the campus. The security officials of the university informed the police about the incident.
The police rushed to the spot and took 13 students of Shahbaz group into custody with the help of university`s security officials. The arrested students have been identified as Shehbaz, Rehman, Faheem, Jabbar, Bilal Shahid, Abdul Rehman, Rizwan, Adil, Aamir, Waseem, Faisal, Imran, and Shoaib.
None of the Aizad group member was arrested as they managed to escape.
However, the police also nominated Taimur, Umar, Aamir, Mian Aamir, Umair, Zeeshan, Samiullah, Ali Gujjar, Qamar, Arslan and Rana Aizad in the case registered against both groups on the complaint of ASI Imdad Husain.
Gulberg SHO Malik Tariq told Dawn a case under sections 324, 337-H2, 148, 149 and 13/20/65 had been registered against both the groups and two pistols were also seized from the accused.
He said raids were being conducted to arrest the remaining accused.
A couple of days ago two students had sustained bullet injuries after a member of Aizad group opened fire over some minor issue.
