Gas pipeline blown up in Kashmore
QUETTA: An 18-inch high-pressure gas pipeline of Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) was blown up on Thursday morning near Hajano village in the Tangwani area of Kashmore district, about 34 kilometres south of the Sui gas field.
A senior police officer said that an explosive device was planted on a gas pipeline in well no 56 in Sui area that exploded with big bang, destroying pipeline.
Gas supply from Bugti tribal territory was suspended as officials preparing plan to repair it at the earliest to restore supply to different parts of the country.
Law enforcement agencies rushed to the place of incident soon after the blast and cordoned off the area and started the manhunt for the culprits responsible for the explosion.
The pipeline carries 110 million cubic feet gas daily (mmcfd) from Sui gas field to SSGC pipeline system at Shikarpur for its onward transmission to entire Balochistan, a SSGC spokesman said.
SSGC is trying to ensure a smooth and uninterrupted gas supply to Balochistan, but a shortfall of about 30 mmcfd gas will be faced. As a result of the incident, the gas supply to the province will be curtailed to all consumers, except domestic, for 2-3 days.
The recent sabotage activity took place just after seven days, when on January 13, another blast tore open the same gas pipeline near Jaffarabad.
Four sabotage incidents had occurred in ‘Tangwani’ area since 2003 and the move is seen as conspiracy against the Baloch people.
