Peshawar: Drug trafficker gets life
PESHAWAR, Jan 21: Additional District and Sessions Judge Muneera Abbasi on Friday convicted a narcotics trafficker and sentenced him to life imprisonment with a fine of Rs200,000.
The judge in her capacity as special judge (control of narcotics) ruled that the prosecution had proved its case against the accused, Ali Haider, a resident of Dabishabad area here.
The officials of the concerned Sarband police station claimed that they had prior information that huge quantity of narcotics would be smuggled from tribal areas to Punjab through Bara Road on Mar 11, 2010.
It was claimed that a police party stopped a vehicle driven by the accused and on search they recovered 120kg of charas and 11kg of opium from the car.
The accused was charged under section 9-C of the Control of Narcotics Substance Act.
The state prosecutor argued that the accused was caught red-handed and huge quantity of contraband was recovered from his possession.
