Over Rs5m looted in Islamabad robbery
ISLAMABAD: Three robbers looted over Rs5 millions in broad daylight and escaped after dodging the police here on Thursday, police said.
Malik Abdul Rasheed, an employee of a private TV channel, withdrew Rs5.3 million from the Muslim Commercial Bank I-9 Markaz branch. As he was returning to his office in a Suzuki carry, a white Mehran car intercepted him near Jamia Ashrafia and its occupants snatched the cash at gunpoint. Soon after the robbery victim informed the police, all the pickets and patrolling teams were alerted.
A police patrolling team from Sabzi Mandi spotted the Mehran car at I.J. Principal Road and started chasing it. Seeing the police vehicle, the robbers opened fire and in retaliation the police also fired shots on them.
The robbers drove towards British Homes and stuck in a close alley. A brief encounter took place when the police blocked their way out. As a result, one of the robbers suffered a bullet injury and started bleeding.
The robbers entered a house in street and escaped from there before the police reinforcement arrived.
