Karachi: Carjacker gets 8 years in prison
KARACHI, Jan 31: A court on Monday sentenced a carjacker to a total of eight-year imprisonment in two cases. The court found Mohammad Dilbar guilty in two cases of carjacking in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal area in 2009.
A senior civil judge (east) handed down a total of eight years in prison — five years and three years in the two respective cases — to the accused and imposed a fine Rs10,000 on him in each case. In case of non-payment, the convict would have to undergo an additional two-month imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, the accused along with the absconding accomplices in August 2009 snatched the car of Muhammad Arif and also deprived him of his cellphone and cash. In the second case, the accused had snatched the vehicle of Sheikh Hussain Zaidi in Nov 2009, but a police party after a chase arrested him and recovered the vehicle, it added.
Two cases (FIR 455/09 & 719/09) were registered against him under Sections 392 (punishment for robbery) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Gulshan-i-Iqbal police station.
