Robber killed in crossfire in Lahore
LAHORE: An alleged robber was killed during crossfire while his accomplice sustained multiple bullet injuries in Satukatla police limits in the wee hours of Monday.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Ramzan Raaj, resident of Shahdeval Village. Police investigators believed that the deceased was a dacoit and was gunned down during crossfire.
Talking to TheNation, Satukatla Station House Officer (SHO) Javed Siddique said the deceased and his accomplice were robbers. They had set up a picket near their village and were looting the passerby. They had even snatched cash, mobile phones and other valuables from three people of their own village and five persons of Misri Shah on the same night, the SHO added.
He said when a police van along with three to four policemen reached the spot at about 2:00am, the dacoits opened fire on the policemen. Police also retaliated in their self-defence resultantly the robbers suffered bullet injuries, he added. Police investigators maintained one robber died on the spot while his accomplice managed to flee the scene.
Earlier, Mohammad Ashraf, father of the deceased, alleged police had gunned down his son in an encounter over personal grudge. The heirs of the deceased were protesting against the policemen when SP Saddar Police Division Zeshan Ashgar along with a good number of police contingents approached the site.
The SP ordered a formal inquiry against police officers associated with this incident and assured the victims that justice would be provided to them. Police have also registered a case under police encounter act.
Later, police removed the body to the City morgue for autopsy. Further investigations are underway.
