Rawalpindi: Qadri indicted in Taseer murder case
RAWALPINDI: Malik Mumtaz Hussain Qadri, the assassin of late Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer, was formally indicted by the Rawalpindi Anti-Terrorism Court on Monday.
Express 24/7 reports that the court accepted the charge-sheet against Qadri and charged him under Section 302. The hearing has been adjourned till February 26, when the court will call in witnesses.
Earlier, the court had deferred the indictment of Qadri. One of Qadri’s lawyers, Raja Shuja Rehman, told AFP that the indictment could not take place as planned because the prosecution had yet to provide the defence with six police statements.
Qadri had formally confessed in court to having murdered Taseer by gunning him down in Kohsar Shopping Centre in Islamabad.
