37 fined for illegal fishing in Lahore
Lahore: Provincial and district mobile teams, constituted on Chief Minister’s directive,fined 37 persons across the province for illegal fishing.
Director General, Fisheries, Punjab, Chaudhary Muhammad Ashraf told APP here on Thursday that the government had banned fishing of all species without a licence or permit in the province.
The violators were also being awarded six months rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 5,000 by trial courts, besides seizure of their catch and equipment, apprised the DG. “Several teams, each headed by assistant director, inspectors and supervisors, would continue raids and strict action against the accused”, the DG said, while adding that deputy directors had also been instructed to conduct surprise raids in their respective areas.
Muhammad Ashraf appreciated the head of the provincial team director Dr. Sikandar Hayat Jehangir for showing good results while controlling illegal fishing.
