Haripur: Timber seized
HARIPUR, March 10: The Haripur police claimed on Thursday to have seized a big quantity of timber from a sick industrial unit in Khalabat Township.
The timber was reported to be brought from upper Hazara and stored there by some group of lumberjack for onward transportation to Punjab where its market price runs in millions, police said.
However, no arrest was made. The price of the timber, according to police, was about Rs15 million.
Organised gangs of loggers cut trees from upper parts of Hazara and northern areas and smuggle it to Haripur via Tarbela Lake for onward transport it to Punjab in connivance with forest officials and police.
