16 power pilferers held in Quetta
Quetta: At least 16 people were arrested on Monday during the grand operation launched by the Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) against the power theft in the provincial capital.
On the directives of Chief Executive officer QESCO, Engineer Mohammad Shafique Khattak, QESCO raiding team launched an operation against the electricity thieves, said the QESCO sources, adding the team backed by the police seized hundreds of wires used for getting illegal connections. As many as 16 defaulters using the electricity by adopting illegal means have also been arrested from the areas including, Liaquat Baazar, Faisal Town, Sabzal Road and its adjacent localities.
The accused were as a whole fined Rs one lakh and five thousands under the Electricity Act 39A by the court of Special Magistrate WAPDA, Ahmed Iftikhar Bugti. It may be mentioned here that QESCO has launched drive against the power theft across the province and asked its electricity consumers to cooperate with them to lessen and discourage the power theft in the province so that the power shortfall could be overcome. Meanwhile it is reported that the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) has issued shutdown program for necessary repair, maintenance and expansion of electricity lines.
