Kidnapped lawyers released in Dhaddar
QUETTA: Two kidnapped lawyers and two of their companions were released by their kidnappers near Dhaddar on Monday.
“The kidnappers have been paid money as ransom for our safe release,” one of the kidnapped lawyers, Advocate Syed Muhammad Tahir, told reporters.
Advocates Saleem Akhtar, Tahir and their colleagues’ Farhan and Rustam were travelling in a car from Quetta to Sibi when a group of armed men kidnapped them at gunpoint leaving behind their car in Dhaddar on February 23, 2010.
Family sources said that the kidnappers had contacted their family members and asked for money for their release. Talking to journalists, Tahir said that the kidnappers had threatened them of dire consequences during their captivity if any of them disclosed any information about the kidnappers.
The kidnapped lawyers were released in a deserted mountainous area near Sunni and they reached Dhaddar where they re-established contacts with their respective families and friends.
“Our hands were tied and we were blindfolded, and the kidnappers only fed us once in 24 hours, just to keep us alive,” Tahir said.
