6 more fall prey to target killing in Karachi
KARACHI: Six more people, including two activists of the People’s Amn Committee (PAC), two workers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and one man of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), were killed Tuesday in ongoing wave of target killings in the city.
A MQM activist, Lal Muhammad, 18, son of Ameer Hussain, was installing a flag on an electric pole along with other party men in Korangi when more than half dozen armed men on four motorcycles opened fire on them, resultantly Lal died on the spot while two other party activists Hayat and Sultan sustained injuries.
The body and the injured were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). Tension gripped Korangi after the incident where all shops and markets were closed.
SP Usman Ghani said the victim was the resident of same area where incident took place and was an activist of MQM’s sub-ordinate wing – Muttahida Organizing Committee (MOC).
Separately, police found the bullet-riddled body of a youth from 100 Quarters, Korangi in the limits of Zaman Town police station. The victim was later identified as Azhar, 28, son of Anwar, resident of Sector 51, Korangi.
SHO Pervez Gujjar said the victim was an activist of MQM unit 76, adding unidentified armed men killed him after kidnapping and later threw his body. The body was shifted to the JPMC and later handed over to his heirs.
The ongoing bloodshed also claimed three more lives in Kharadar and Baghdadi areas. More than a dozen armed men entered Fariya Street, Kharadar and opened indiscriminate fire, killing two men on the spot and injuring four others.
SHO Ghulam Nabi Afridi said both victims were later identified as Shahzad, 25, son of Yousuf and Hanif, 65, son of Omar Ahmed, adding that Shahzad was the resident of Khadda Market and was an activist of PAC, while Hanif was killed by stray bullets. The officer said culprits’ target was Shahzad because he was usually seen sitting with PAC activists.
Another activist of PAC was shot dead in Khadda Market and was later identified as Imran, 30, son of Mohammad Hussain. He was sitting with his friend near his house when two unidentified armed men shot him dead. The body was shifted to the CHK for legal formalities.
SHO Tassawar said the victim was an activist of PAC. After three murders in Kharadar and Baghdadi, all major markets, including Lea, Khajoor, Shoe Markets and shops were closed in the area.
A younger brother of Vice President PPP District Central was shot dead near Goal Market in the limits of Nazimabad police station.
DSP Sultan Khan said Nawaz Khan, 23, son of Rozi Khan, resident of Chota Maidan, was standing near Goal Market when unidentified armed men opened fire, resultantly he received bullet injuries and died on the spot, while Asif and Imran sustained injuries.
Police shifted the body and injured to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Deputy Secretary Information PPP Karachi Division Sohail Abidi has condemned the incident and said it was a target killing.
