ANP activist killed in Site area
KARACHI: Advocate Haji Hanif Khan, 65, son of Daulat Khan, who served as ANP Zone West’s General Secretary as well as the adviser to ANP’s Labour Minister Ameer Nawab was shot dead near Agha Building within the limits of SITE-A Police Station.
Khan was headed to the mosque for Fajr prayers when unidentified armed men ambushed opened indiscriminate fire on him. As a result, he received two bullets and was critically injured. The culprits managed to flee after the assault.
Khan was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries after a few hours. As the news spread, scores of ANP workers and local leaders rushed to the JPMC and chanted slogans against the government and its coalition partners.
SHO Faryad Bhatti said that the victim was also a member of Karachi Bar, adding that the police had recovered two empty shells of 30-bore pistol from the spot. Bhatti informed that the initial investigation revealed it was an act of target killing and the culprits were waiting for the victim near mosque.
Khan hailed from Swat and was father of nine children. Officer further informed that the incident was a sequel of the ongoing target killing in Karachi. Police have registered FIR (198/11) against unidentified men on the complaint of victim’s son Tariq and initiated the probe.
