QUETTA: Another power pylon of a high transmission line was blown up near the Sibi district on Thursday, increasing the power shortfall in Balochistan, where 14 districts have been without power for the past five days.
Unidentified perpetrators planted explosive materials with a power pylon of 132 Sibi-Harnai transmission line that went off with a huge explosion destroying the tower. As many as four power pylons of high transmission lines were blown up during the past few days, affecting 15 districts, including the provincial capital.
Around 12 hours of load shedding is being carried out in Quetta alone and for 20 to 22 hours in the other 14 districts of Balochistan. Repairs on the damaged power pylons have been started and would be conclude in ten days, official sources said.
However, the repair work on the 220 KV transmission line would take 15 days to be concluded, the officials added. Growers and angry people in Mastung staged a protest demonstration on the RCD Highway, suspending traffic between Karachi and Quetta.
The protesters said that power was being supplied to Mastung hardly for an hour a day due to which people, particularly growers and traders, were being adversely affected. The district administration held talks with the protesters and assured them that their problem would be taken up with concerned authorities.
After being disrupted for several hours the traffic on RCD Highway was restored. People in Surab had besieged the gird station in protest against disruption of power supply. Angry people said that power supply to Kalat and Khuzdar districts was suspended for the past five days.
