Karachi: Two young men found shot dead
KARACHI: Two young men were found shot dead in different parts of the city on Sunday, police said. The police suspected rivalry with a Lyari gang as a motive behind one of the killings. “It was quarter past five in the morning when someone informed us about the presence of a gunny bag in Street 19 of Bihar Colony near Meranaka,” said an official at the Chakiwara police station.
Subsequently, he said, the police reached the spot and found the gunny bag stuffed with a body. He said the body bearing torture marks and multiple gunshot wounds was shifted to the civil hospital. Doctors were quoted as saying that the victim, who was later identified as 30-year-old Nasrullah Khan Niazi, suffered nine bullet wounds.
However, the police said they did not find spent bullet casings in the street where the body was lying abandoned, which strengthened their suspicions that the victim had been shot dead somewhere else. A spokesman for the Awami National Party claimed that Nasarullah Khan was a former president of the ANP`s Niazi Chowk ward of UC-2, Lyari.
But the family of the deceased was quoted as saying that Niazi had not been associated with the ANP for the last few years. SP Lyari Javed Baloch said that the killing appeared to be a result of a gang rivalry. He added that the victim reportedly has some sort of rivalry with some members of the Arshad Pappu group. It was being suspected that they might be behind the killing, said another police officer of the town. However, he said that investigation was under way.
In North Nazimabad, a young man was found shot dead on Sunday morning, police said. The police shifted the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Doctors said the victim had suffered a gunshot wound in the head. An official of the Shahrah-i-Noor Jehan police station said the victim was a brother of an activist and unit-in-charge of the Sunni Tehreek, Shahid Anjum.
The victim`s family was quoted as saying that Naveed had left his home late Saturday night. Till filing of this report, an FIR pertaining to the killing was yet to be registered.
