21 carjackers held in Karachi in three days
KARACHI: The Anti-Car-Lifting Cell claimed to have arrested 21 suspected carjackers and recovered 35 vehicles during separate raids in the city during the last three days.
Speaking at a press conference, ACLC SSP Javed Akbar Riaz said that 18 cars/vans and 17 motorcycles were recovered in the raids. Three pistols were also recovered from the arrested suspects, he added.
He said a total of eight gangs of carjackers had been busted. Of the 21 carjackers, six had been declared proclaimed offenders, he added.
He said that numerous fake number plates, blank registration books and various stamps were also recovered from the possession of the suspects.
The SSP claimed that during the first quarter of 2011, the ACLC managed to reduce the average daily theft or snatching of vehicles to 11.
