Karachi: PPP man, JI activist’s brother among 4 killed
KARACHI: Four people, including an elder brother of former UC Nazim and an activist of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), were killed in separate incidents of target killings and violence in different parts of metropolis on Wednesday.
Police found the body of an elder brother of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) activist from the Mewa Shah Graveyard within the limits of Pak Colony police station. The victim was later identified as 30-year-old Nadir Rasheed Hashmi, son of Rasheed Hashmi and resident of Mohammad Abad, Gulbahar.
DSP Qaiser Ali Shah said the victim’s body had several torture marks, adding unidentified men kidnapped him, drilled his whole body and abandoned it in the Mewa Shah Graveyard. The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for medico-legal formalities.
The DSP said victim’s elder brother Amir Rasheed, who was a former UC Nazim of Rizvia Liaquatabad Town, received his body. He told police that his brother was missing from April 2, and was an employee of a private company. A JI spokesman said the victim was the elder brother of former UC Nazim of Rizvia and was performing duty in Al-Khidmat. Police have registered an FIR (75/11) against unidentified men and started further probe into the case.
Separately, an activist of the PPP was shot dead and other person was injured in Jumma Goth, Malir in the precincts of Al-Falah police station. The incident took place at Baba Wilayat Shah Road when six armed men, on three motorcycles, opened fire on pushcart stalls, Resultantly Ghulam Mohammad Baloch, 28, son of Dil Murad Baloch, died on the spot, while 25-year-old Akhter Hussain Baloch, son of Mohammad Hussain Baloch, sustained injuries.
The police shifted the body and injured to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). PPP deputy information secretary Karachi division Sohail Abdi claimed that the victim was the active worker of our organisation. No case was registered till filing the report.
Meanwhile, an employee of a five-star restaurant was shot dead while offering resistance during a robbery incident in the limits of Malir Cantt police station. Syed Noman, 35, son of Mahmoodul Hassan, resident of Saadi Town, Malir Cantt, was sleeping at home when three bandits entered his house and held the family hostage at gunpoint. Noman offered some resistance to them at which they shot him dead. The bandits also looted mobile phones, jewellery and other valuables and fled. The body was shifted to the JPMC for medico-legal formalities.
The police said the victim was the waiter of five-star restaurant and father of three children. The police have registered an FIR (45/11) against unidentified men on the complaint of victim’s brother Akhter and initiated further probe into the case.
In another incident, a man committed suicide at his house in Qasba Colony, Orangi Town, in the jurisdiction of Pirabad police station. Nadeem Gul, 35, son of Hassan Gul, resident of Awan Colony, Qasba Morr, shot himself to death. The body was shifted to the ASH for postmortem. SHO Jahanzaib said the victim used to live alone at his house and was a labourer by profession. The motive behind suicide could not be ascertained yet. Later, his body was moved to the Edhi Morgue.
