Peshawar: Beggars, addicts held in a crackdown
PESHAWAR: Police arrested 70 beggars and drug addicts in a crackdown here on Thursday. District coordination officer, Peshawar, Siraj Ahmed Khan said that these arrests had been made due to increasing number of beggars on the city roads, roundabouts and bazaars.
He said that begging was bailable offence and those arrested would have to fill a bond in court, pledging that they would not indulge in this practice again. He said that child beggars would be sent to welfare home where they would be taught vocational skills. The DCO said that some of the drug addicts also tried to attack officials with blades when they were taken into custody.
