Six fall prey to target killing
KARACHI: Six people, including two activists each of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and the Awami National Party (ANP), fell prey to ongoing wave of target killings in Karachi on Thursday. The first target-killing incident took place in Orangi Town No 10 in the limits of Mominabad police station where unidentified armed men on bikes shot dead two activists of the MQM Orangi Town Sector. The victims were identified as Raza Idrees and Sarfaraz. Police said both victims were standing outside their homes when unidentified armed men fired them, leaving them dead on the spot.
Heavy contingent of law enforcement agencies were deployed in sensitive area of Orangi Town to control the situation. Similarly, unidentified armed men shot dead two activists of the ANP in Lines Area. SHO Sadder Shabbir said unidentified armed men, on a bike, appeared at Quetta Achakzai Hotel along AB Seena Line Road in Lines Area and opened fire, leaving Abdul Zaman, 35; Sher Ali, 30; and Ahmed Jan injured.
The injured were rushed to the Civil Hospital Karachi where Abdul Zaman and Sher Ali succumbed to the injuries, while doctors termed the condition of Ahmed Jan as critical. ANP spokesman Qadir Khan said the killed persons were activists of ANP. Police said the victims hailed from Quetta and were working in the hotel. No case could be registered till filing this report.
Meanwhile, an activist of Muhajir Qaumi Movement–Haqiqi (MQM-H) was gunned down near Jhanda Chowk in the limits of Saudabad police station. Police said Zeeshan alias Mama, 35, resident of Madina Colony, Khokhrapar, was fixing a cable wire in Jhanda Chowk, Mohammadi Colony, Malir when two armed men on a motorcycle opened fire on him, resultantly he received six bullets and died on the spot.
Police official said the victim was a cable operator by profession and an active worker of MQM-H, adding that the victim was also nominated in the murder case of a DSP in 1997. The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities. No case was registered till filing this report. Another activist of MQM-H (Afaq Ahmed faction), who suffered bullet wounds three days ago in an attack, succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.
