Police claims arresting five alleged target killers in Karachi
KARACHI: Sindh police claimed to have arrested five alleged target killers involved in the recent spate of target killings through separate encounters at various parts of the city on Monday. According to CID police, four target killers were arrested after a brief encounter within the remits of Eidgah police station.
SP Chaudhry Aslam apprised that some seven alleged target killers, riding on three motorbikes, reached near Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) to bump off a person namely Muhammad Ali. On hearing gunshots, police party rushed to the spot and intercepted the culprits who tried to flee under the cover of firing.
The SP claimed that police after a brief encounter arrested four culprits namely Owais Baloch, Zahid, Liaquat and Shah Jahan while rest of them Shiraz Zikri, brother of Ghaffar Zikri; Razzak Commando, Bilal and Shera, brother of Arshad Pappu; managed to escape under heavy gunshots. Aslam said police recovered one kalashnikov and three 9mm pistols from their possessions.
SP Omar Shahid said Mohammad Ali belonged to the People’s Aman Committee (PAC) and culprits from the rival group wanted to kidnap and murder him. On the other hand, sources claimed that the culprits intended to target an activist of MQM Asif, who was going in a car (AHB-217). Sources said that the MQM activist Asif also received bullets wounds in the shootout, while another passer-by Arshad sustained injuries and was admitted to the ICU of CHK.
In another incident New Karachi town police claimed to have arrested a target killer who belonged to the Muhajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H) in the limits of Khawaja Ajmair Nagri police station
According to SP Malik Zafar Iqbal, the Khawaja Ajmair Nagri police intercepted three suspects, riding on a motorbike, during patrolling.
Instead of surrendering themselves, they offered resistance and tried to escape under the cover of indiscriminate gunshots. Police pursued and arrested an alleged target killer namely Waqas alias Arman while the other managed to flee. He said the alleged target killer, who belonged to the MQM-H, confessed during initial course of interrogation that he along with other accomplices targeted three MQM activists in Mehmoodabad and three others at Mominabad area after the killing of his party leader Akhter Hussain. One of the absconded persons was identified as Salman while police recovered a 30 bore pistol from Waqas’s possession.
