Target killings claim three more lives in Karachi
KARACHI: Three more people lost their lives in incidents of target killings in different parts of Karachi on Monday. Those killed included one activist each of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
An MQM activist was gunned down in Rizwan Society, Gulshan-e-Iqbal in the jurisdiction of Sacchal police station. The victim, 28-year-old Mirza Imran Baig alias Immi, son of Naseem Baig, was a resident of Rizwan Society and was shot while on his way home in a black Hyundai car. Two armed men, on a motorcycle, opened fire at him as he reached near his house. Imran sustained serious injuries and died on his way to a hospital.
After the incident, tension gripped the entire locality and all shops and markets were closed. Heavy aerial firing was reported in the Sacchal area while unidentified miscreants also torched a mini bus. No case could be registered till filing of this report.
In another incident, an activist of the PPP was shot dead while another was injured in Orangi Town within the limits of Pakistan Bazar police station. The incident took place at Tehzeeb Kabab House, situated at Sector 15-B of the Orangi Town. Two armed men reached on a motorcycle and sprayed bullets on the hotel. Resultantly, Asghar, 53, alias Bihari, son of Habib died on the spot, while Ahmed Ali, 28, son of Mohammad Hussain, sustained injuries. The armed men managed to flee the scene.
Police shifted the dead body and the injured to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal procedure on the body and medical treatment to the wounded. Hospital sources informed that Asghar received one bullet in his heart while the condition of injured person was out of danger. SP Khurram Waris said that the victim was a resident of the same area.
PPP Karachi division Information Secretary Sohail Abdi said that the victim was an active worker of PPP and his son-in-law Asif is the current area president of the PPP, adding that the victim was a father of 10 children.
Separately, body of a young man was found near Lal Flats, Gulshan-e-Iqbal in the limits of Gulistan-e-Jauhar police station. The identity of the victim was yet to be ascertained. SHO Asif Jakhrani said that the victim received two bullets, one each on his head and chest, adding that the victim wore trousers-shirt and appeared to be of Pakhtoon descent. The body was transported to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities and later moved to the Edhi Morgue for identification purpose. Police officials said that the police found two empty shells near victim’s body. Police have registered a case against unidentified men on the complaint of state and initiated the probe.
