Lahore: Woman attempts suicide outside SP office
LAHORE: A woman swallowed pills in an attempt to commit suicide outside the office of the Iqbal Town SP (operations) in Muslim Town after failing to get a case registered against her husband on Thursday. Kanwal Shahzad hit her head against a pole when the Muslim Town police reportedly did not entertain her request to register a case against her husband. She said she had a scuffle with her husband. A Rescue 1122 ambulance ferried her to a nearby hospital as police did not try to stop her from taking pills.
A police official said a case had been registered on the complaint of the protesting woman. Before approaching the police station, he said, the woman went to her room, resorted to aerial firing and also tried to burn herself. He said strained relations with her husband had forced Kanwal to attempt suicide. Iqbal Town SP (operations) Romail Akram did not respond to the phone calls.
