Two policemen shot dead in Peshawar
PESHAWAR: Unidentified persons shot dead two policemen and took away their official rifles at Nasir Bagh Road here on Wednesday night. Hayat Mir and Masood Khan, the policemen, were patrolling the road near Police Colony when unidentified motorcyclists attacked and killed them, an official said.
The attackers, he said, also took away their rifles after confirming that the policemen were killed on the spot. He said that they were rushed to the hospital but they had already died.
A police spokesman, when contacted, said that funeral prayers of the slain policemen were offered at Malik Saad Khan Police Lines. Later, the bodies were shifted to their ancestral villages in Mathra area on the suburbs of Peshawar for burial.
“Police cordoned off the entire area and conducted a search operation but could not arrest the assailants,” the spokesman said. He said that the policemen were targeted by militants. However, he said that no group of militants had so far claimed responsibility for the incident. A case against unidentified terrorists was registered at Nasir Bagh police station.
Meanwhile, police claimed to have arrested five kidnappers at Kohat Road and recovered weapons from their possession. The police spokesman said that the arrested persons were identified as Mohammad Yousaf, Janan, Niaz Ali, Mohammad Ayaz and Kamran.
Police also recovered one Kalashnikov, one pistol, one 7mm rifle, one 8mm rifle and hundreds of cartridges of various bores from their car. He said the accused were wanted by police in different cases of kidnapping for ransom.
