Rawalpindi: 8 cops booked for bogus degrees
RAWALPINDI: Eight constables have been booked for cheating and defrauding as they presented bogus certificates of their educational qualifications at the time of joining the police department.
However, none of them has been arrested, police said. The verification of education certificates and security clearance of policemen started after the assassination of Salman Taseer in January this year.
The education certificates of the eight constables were sent to the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Rawalpindi. After the board declared them fake, police registered cases against the constables “Faisal Mehmood, Zubair Khan, Faisal-ur-Rehman, Tariq Mehmood, Abdul Anan, Zahid Ali, Rizwan and Qamar Aftab “ of cheating and defrauding the department.
Irum Khanum, former station house officer of Women police station in Rawalpindi, had already been booked after her education certificates turned out to be fake.
“The process of verifying educational certificates of police personnel had been started, along with security clearance,” a senior police officer, requesting not be named, said. He feared that several police personnel may face the charge of cheating and defrauding their department.
